During part of their studies for the Welsh Baccalaureate the sixth form at Hawthorn
High School welcomed The Lord Aberdare last Friday afternoon to lead a session about
the role of the House of Lords in the democratic system.
The students found the visit both interesting and informative and asked a variety
of questions at the end of Lord Aberdare's presentation.
Kirsty Hussein, a pupil in year 13 said:
"I didn't think that I would be interested in politics but Lord Aberdare clearly
explained how the system works and I was amazed at the way he was able to answer
every question that was given to him, including my question about the value of ERA
to sixth form pupils".
The visit was arranged as part of the "Peers in Schools” programme run by the Lord
Speaker's Office and the pupils are now looking forward to visiting the House of
Lords his year."
